Here’s What I did:

Tara came to see my as a new empty nester now wanting to really focus on her own self care. She had tried so many ‘diets’ and the work in the beginning was navigating through this. More of this then was having Tara learn to trust her body and the food it needed including what she enjoyed eating. We talked about balancing movement here as well. Tara worked hard on trusting herself and continues to do so.

Here’s What She said:

I sought Robyn’s help because I could not figure out how could I be doing everything “right” and still be so “wrong”. Why was I stuck? This is where my journey began. Robyn helped me untangle my thoughts so that I became more clear and focused and so my behavior and nutritional desires and activities became more clear and focused and aligned. Robyn’s approach is very freeing. There is no perfect plan that I am following, so there is no cheating. Robyn has cleared my mind of all the “good and bad” self-talk and we just think about and discuss what I need and how I can approach nourishing myself to be healthy and active in a way that suits me. Robyn creates a safe, calm, focused, clear environment for me to connect with myself and my ability to nourish my body. There is no perfect way, just my way. This is working for me! I want to be healthy, so my all my actions are aligned with that goal. I feel very supported by Robyn on this journey. She always tells me that I am the one doing the work. Robyn has helped me to clarify my thoughts and create my own nutrition goals and activities to create the way of living that I desire. I feel empowered to do just that everyday.

Here’s What I did:

Kelly and I stated working together a few years ago. She has always worked subsequently with a therapist and a PCP who are collaborative in our care together for her. We have worked on small changes and building up trust and this has evolved into a recovered woman deserving of all of the gifts she possesses – and now she sees them! We will continue to work together on her recovery using trust, small steps, and building on all of the work she has put so much faith of her own into through time.

Here’s What She said:

Thankfully, I found my way into the capable and patient hands of Robyn Kievit Kirkman in April 2015. With an eating disorder that started in 1985, it took me 30 years to get to her and it has been an interesting journey to say the least. My eating disorder evolved over the course of the years to include restricting, excessive exercise, and bingeing and purging. It was only within the last year that I finally took a leap of faith and fully embraced working with Robyn on my recovery. I am learning how to think like a healthy eater, understand portions and find “the joy of cooking”. I am still working on the goal to incorporate yoga into my life, but it’ll happen. I have a lot of work ahead of me but look forward to working with Robyn to continue to evolve into the healthy individual I aspire to be. She is an incredibly gifted healthcare provider and I am honored to work with her.

Here’s What I did:

Amy came to see me after working at overcoming her eating disorder and over exercising. She also had a team of a therapist and psychiatrist on board. She was nervous to meet as she had a negative experience with a previous clinician in terms of nutrition. Amy wanted to come in weekly and was and has been highly motivated. We worked collaboratively with her therapist and psychiatrist to ensure she was – and will be – supported in all of our work. The changes she has made on her road to recovery have been remarkable.

Here’s What She said:

Throughout my work with Robyn, I’ve become much more comfortable with foods that I completely restricted before. I’ve also cut back on my over-exercising. I’ve worked on allowing myself the freedom to eat when I’m hungry, as opposed to my strict meal times. We’ve worked on becoming more intuitive with my exercise, and being comfortable with not working out every day. I’ve even skipped planned work out days for happy hour with my friends. Robyn’s approach looked at my health holistically, and has helped me slowly relieve the burden of my eating and exercising disorder. I have a new found energy, without the burden of always thinking about when I would get my next run in. While I am still on the road to recovery, I’m so thankful for Robyn’s help in learning how to trust myself and my body.

Here’s What I did:

I saw Gretchen as a Division 1 athlete looking for help with body image and weight concerns, trying to create advantages in her body with her sport, and remain comfortable with these while on a semester abroad — and afterward back on her college campus. She has been able to establish a better relationship with food and her body looking forward to further time as a college athlete.

Here’s What She said:

Over the course of a few short months, Robyn’s impact on my life has been extraordinary. My relationship with food has transformed. Through Robyn’s extensive knowledge, I have been educated to properly fuel and take care of my body as I compete as a Division I collegiate student-athlete.

I feel supported through every step of the process and I always know Robyn is at the other end of the phone or email. While traveling abroad, Robyn was available to me when needed and accommodated my schedule and specific questions concerning international food options. Understanding the mechanics of a healthy, well balanced diet allows me to feel good eating each meal. I feel empowered to fuel my body properly and I am so grateful for Robyn’s help. Achieving my goal weight in addition to a fresh mindset has transformed my outlook on all aspects of my life. The lessons I learned from Robyn will accompany me for the rest of my life.

Here’s what I did:

I began seeing Carol as a woman in her 60’s having lived with her eating disorder for 40 plus years. In closely working with her therapist, we were able to create small goals moving toward positive coping mechanisms & with food and body image over an 8 month period of time. Carol still meets with both her therapist and myself regularly with less frequent appointments to maintain her recovery.

Here’s what she said:

Robyn was remarkably kind and accepting of me and my disordered way of eating. I worked as honestly as possible with her and my therapist, admitting all of my faults and negatives, completing food journals that were real and no longer “what I thought people wanted to see.” Best of all, I came to an understanding and acceptance of myself: flawed, yes, but also incredibly kind, compassionate, and needing to be real. I am very happy to report that I have not purged since the summer. This has freed my soul, mind and heart in such a manner that I can hardly recognize myself.

Here’s what I did:

I helped Erin continue on her established meal plan and weight gain goals following inpatient and outpatient stays for her eating disorder corresponding with her therapist, who referred her to me, throughout the entire relationship. Erin was able to establish a healthier outlook toward eating, exercise, and boundaries around food and it’s relationships in all areas of her life.

Here’s what she said:

I have only recently started working with Robyn, yet I have already developed full confidence and trust in our relationship. Robyn is everything I am looking for in a nutritionist to assist me through my recovery from an eating disorder. She personalizes her work and shows complete commitment to her client by making herself easily accessible. Robyn is easy to connect with and is highly dependable. I feel safe discussing my eating disorder with her as she encourages my thoughts with an open mind. Robyn is profoundly knowledgeable in her field of work and puts things into perspective, thus making life seem more manageable. Leaving Robyn’s office, I am uplifted by a surge of positive energy and feel motivated to continue strong on my path to recovery.

Here’s what I did:

I was referred to Hally by her therapist after nearly 15 years of living with her eating disorder with multiple inpatient and outpatient stays. Beginning from eating almost nothing during the day, we were able to conceive of a plan allowing Hally to eat more normally inclusive of meals, snacks, eating in and out of the house including comfortably at work, using a meal plan designed just for her with and consistent support from both myself, her therapist and primary care provider.

Here’s what she said:

Despite the fact that I have just started working with Robyn, I really appreciate how she approaches each person in an individual way. She meets me where I am at, instantly makes me feel comfortable. With a background as an NP, she can advise on nutrition and the effect on one’s overall health. I would highly recommend Robyn to anyone seeking nutrition services.

Here’s what I did:

I was able to help Rachel adapt from eating on a meal plan to eating normally without one while still being able to maintain her weight and exercise without regression to her eating disorder. I came up with simple tips combined with consistent appointments and collaboration with her therapist and primary care provider such that she continues to be able to enjoy eating in and outside of the home and thrive with exercise without triggers keeping her from achieving her goals.

Here’s what she said:

Robyn’s approach to nutrition is personalized and nonjudgmental. She is amazingly perceptive and offers advice that is approachable and realistic. As I am going through a major transition in my life she has given me the tools to lay the foundation for establishing a more consistent relationship with food. Robyn continues to help me find low-stress ways to work meal planning into my non-stop daily routine so it feels less overwhelming. She is a great mentor with a wealth of knowledge and the incredible ability to translate that knowledge into all that she does! While I never imagined I would say this about a dietitian, I genuinely look forward to our visits and want to thank you, Robyn for the many ways in which you have helped me thus far.

Here’s what I did:

Molly and I began working together developing ways for her to gain weight after a long bout of being underweight following a traumatic event in her life. We were able to increase her calories while she maintained a vigorous exercise program and a busy professional life combined with continued collaboration with her therapist, primary care provider and psychiatrist.

Here’s what she said:

I began working with Robyn to improve my eating habits and to deepen my understanding of nutrition. During my sessions with Robyn, I have achieved both of these goals. More importantly, this experience has pushed me to improve my lifestyle and has greatly enhanced my overall well-being. I have so appreciated and benefited from Robyn’s wealth of knowledge and her caring approach to working with clients.

Here’s what I did:

I was able to help Suzanne in her challenges with weight loss and weight maintenance following menopause and ongoing issues with food throughout her life yet never having a true diagnosable eating disorder. Together with her trainer, Suzanne was able to achieve her weight, exercise and most importantly nutrition goals using food records, menu planning and goal setting during bi-monthly nutrition appointments. Suzanne was also able to complete her first full marathon under 4 hours after learning more of the ins and outs of sports nutrition!

Here’s what she said:

I first met Robyn over a year ago and from the moment I met her I felt extremely comfortable. She has an ease and calming way about her. She is extremely knowledgeable of her profession and uses it in her every day life. She takes care of herself, finds fun in physical activities, and does not put boundaries and limitations on food.

Robyn is an inspiration to those of us who struggle with food and weight and body issues. She reinforces that you are not alone in this and you will never have to face them by yourself. Robyn walks you through the baby steps so you are able to make great strides in the future. For that, I am grateful.

Here’s what I did:

I have been able to help Krista continue to establish healthy relationships with food and exercise using consistent appointments of about twice per month with an additional phone appointment when necessary along with collaborating with her therapist regularly. After inpatient and outpatient stays for her eating disorder in college, Krista has been able to maintain a healthy weight, work in a demanding profession becoming highly successful while maintaining positive feelings and aspirations around food and exercise.

Here’s what she said:

It has been lovely getting to know Robyn. Unlike many I have worked with, Robyn understands the ins and outs of eating disorders, which I truly value given my long and laborious struggle with food and exercise. I am grateful that Robyn meets me where I am at the same time she propels me in the direction I need to be. Robyn is as patient and understanding as she is knowledgeable.
