Kievit, RD, LDN, FNP-BC, a dietitian and family nurse practitioner, cites a paper published recently in The New England Journal of Medicine, noting, “Studies found menu labeling may lead to some reductions in the number of calories people purchase when labeling is attached to information on how many calories are recommended in a day for the average person: about 2,000 kcal/day.”
“Kievit agrees: “Education absolutely needs to go along with preventive services. We can put a ton of services out to our public and make them available; however, if there is not a cohesive, coordinated educational piece, all of the services will be for naught.”
