What I learned in 2020…

1. Kids really are resilient

This year my son, currently a junior in college, and my daughter, currently a 3rd grader, went fully virtual for their education. Perhaps your children did the same.  My son quarantined off campus in New York City and my daughter stayed at home with me.

We also moved to a new home back in March, which brought some long-term changes to our family.

Yes, Jared and Eve are resilient, but change is hard. They had to make changes to their lives, like most of us, overnight. Living through a pandemic is something they will definitely remember and I truly hope will help them, as our future generation, to make the world a better place.

2. I have the best patients!

In March, I was thrilled to double my practice volume. That said, the need for acute care among my patients is high. Patients have needed more support across the board because of COVID.

If I could hug every one of you, my patients, and let you know we will get through this, I would. I hope I have been able to convey this across a screen during my virtual appointment with you  as much as possible.

3. Patience is a virtue

I have learned how to be more patient in 2020 and have had to ask for more patience in 2020 than ever before. Given my growing practice, I appreciate your patience if you’re finding that it may take a touch longer to secure an appointment with me than usual.

I thank you for your continued business and support as we head into 2021! I am grateful for you and your trust in me to help you on your journey, your recovery, your path.

4. Forgiveness is essential

Forgiveness goes with patience, right? I have had to ask for your forgiveness and understanding when I have not been as speedy in my response to your request for an appointment – and again, I thank you for your understanding as I work to implement systems to ensure your needs are met.

I am always open to your feedback – I welcome it! Please be in touch if you have any questions, concerns or comments. Know that I am eager to see you in the new year!

5. How to hustle smarter

A dear colleague told me that he has learned to hustle smarter this year. I thought about this a lot and I feel as though I “worked smarter” by implementing  better systems within my practice. One example is that we changed our billing company to help us streamline and offer more of a “human touch” approach.

I have changed and adapted how I practice: hello, 100% telehealth! Thank you for your flexibility as we transitioned to virtual nutrition counseling and psychopharmacology sessions this past year. You are awesome!

Overall, yes, 2020 has been a challenging year. If you are feeling challenged, too, perhaps you can tuck one of these quotes away to use in those moments of uncertainty or overwhelm:

  • “You can have it all, but not all at once” ~ Noted by many famous women!

  • “Train yourself to let go of everything you fear to lose” ~ Yoda

  • “Happiness is letting go of what you think your life is supposed to look like and celebrating everything that it is” ~ Mandy Hale
